Dome stuff I did about a month ago. Once I got my first batch of resin parts, it was time to mount the radar eye and take a few shots.


You can see in the first shot that the frame now has the Rockler bearing and Dome Ring attached.
What a difference the radar eye makes. Lots of Visual Progress (VP) for little work on this occasion. Some planned guessing and careful drilling saw the radar eye go in nicely. It's one of the few details without definite measurements. Looking at reference shots showed that the R2s used in the movies weren't all created equal, so I went with what looked like the best fit.
Fast forward a week...
The dome panels are primed and left to cure and then the base coats of metallic cobalt blue are applied. Following that was the top coat of anodized blue.
Here's a shot of the panels after the second base coat. The radar eye now has a lens too and the project is now instantly recognisable.
