One step forward : two steps back

No, I'm not teaching R2 to dance. I wasn't happy with the finish of some resin parts after they'd been painted, so I sanded a lot of the paint back and filled some imperfections with some every day, aircraft-grade epoxy filler I found laying around.

The light blue areas in this pic show the filled areas. I was liberal in my application with the intention of sanding a lot back. With a 24 hour cure time, I didn't want to revisit this step again.

After the filler set, I hit the parts with some sand paper. Wars could have been fought and won in the time this was taking, so I brought out the big guns - the orbital sander and the 100 grit paper. Now we're talkin'!

The flat edges were done in no time flat and the parts were ready for a second attempt at painting. I cleaned the surfaces with some spray on Wax and Grease remover and wiped them down with a clean rag. They got another light coat of primer which had another 24 hour drying time.
Once dried, the primer was then sanded with 800 grit paper until the surface was pretty much smooth. The weekend weather really blew - pun intended. The second coat of primer had to wait for better conditions. I'm planning on laying down a thicker coat of primer this time so that I can put the primer can away even if any further sanding is needed.
